Your Initial Consultation
The purpose of your consultation with the doctor is to discuss your health goals and see if chiropractic treatment is likely to help you. We explain everything first and if you have any questions regarding your care, please do not hesitate to ask.
The first visit consists of a comprehensive health history, physical examination, and may include your report of findings (diagnosis), management plan, consent and treatment. On rare occasions, you may not be treated on your first visit if further investigation is required.
- Health History: Involves comprehensive questions about your general health, presenting complaint and health goals.
- Physical Examination: Includes a comprehensive health analysis and may include blood pressure, posture, strength, orthopaedic, neurological and chiropractic assessment (other assessments such as ankle or cardiovascular exams are also performed if necessary). In general, a thorough physical examination will identify the cause of your problem but if it does not, further investigation such as X-rays may be required.
- Report of Findings: Involves an analysis of your health history and examination findings. During your report of findings, the doctor will go over any abnormalities that were indicated by the results of your examination. The chiropractor gives you a diagnosis and make recommendations designed to help your complaint and improve your overall health and wellness, which may include a referral to another healthcare practitioner.
A program of care will be specifically designed for you, along with any lifestyles changes. Every person responds differently to treatment, however, and your program may change depending on your needs.
At Complete Care Health Ellenbrook, we take great effort in discovering the cause behind your pain or issue. Your practitioner will listen to your story and the history of your condition. This initial evaluation is performed in a private treatment room for approximately 45 minutes and includes a thorough assessment of your structure, posture, biomechanics, joint health, soft tissue mobility, gait and movement patterns.
Your therapist will work with you to determine the appropriate customised treatment plan by the end of the initial visit.
Regular Visits
A regular chiropractic treatment requires 15-20 minutes, physiotherapy treatments are 30 minutes.
It includes a thorough assessment of your current status, then a focused assessment of your problem area and finally treatment (which can be a chiropractic adjustment but may also include gentle mobilisation, dry needling, stretching, balance/proprioceptive training or electrotherapy/ultrasound /muscle stimulation).
Like a regular workout at the gym, therapy builds on previous visits, therefore it is vital to adhere to the management plan. Ancillary advice such as rest, stretching, exercises, relaxation, dietary changes, bracing and supplementation will also be given from time to time.
