Hypnotherapy at Complete Care Health Ellenbrook
What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a type of counselling that resolves problems using guided imagery, relaxed awareness and focused attention. The therapist does not need to know the details of the problem but will guide you towards your own best solution and you are in control.
Hypnotherapy is a highly effective form of treatment, achieving results in 1 to 6 sessions, whereas standard counselling may take as many as 24 sessions or more. So why is it not more commonly used? This may be due to the anxiety of ‘not being in control’ that people associate with hypnosis they may see in movies. However, real hypnotherapy can only be successful when it gives you more control over your life than you already have. You are not put to sleep.
Areas in which research has shown hypnotherapy to be most successful include: insomnia, pain relief, irritable bowel syndrome, phobias, anxiety, depression, quitting smoking and weight loss.
Hypnotherapy is also profoundly effective working with children and teens.
How does hypnotherapy work?
Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state that you may experience when reading a good book, watching a movie, or ‘zoned out’. A hypnotherapist will guide you to use this state to resolve problems you may be aware of, or even ones you may not be aware of.
What can I expect in a hypnotherapy treatment?
A session will typically last 60 minutes or 30 minutes for children. A minimum of two to three sessions is recommended.
An important part of each session will include a discussion surrounding goals and intentions as well as practical exercises for you to take home. The therapist will guide you into a relaxed state of mind and use ‘trance’ to help you achieve your goals.
